Ripper X vs. Ripper 2.0: What’s the Difference and Should You Upgrade?

Longtime fans of RufPuf's heavy-hitting vape setups are likely already familiar with the wildly popular Ripper X closed-pod system. Recently, you might've noticed a new player on the shelves: the Ripper 2.0.

With a new generation comes a lot of questions. Is the Ripper 2.0 backward compatible? Do the pods last longer? Is the flavour any better?

Here's our breakdown of the differences between the old Ripper X and the upgraded Ripper 2.0 to help you decide if it's time to retire your old battery.

Main Differences at a Glance

Before getting into the performance details, let's look at how these two generations of pod system stack up side-by-side.

RIPPER 2.0 Pod System Upgrades

RufPuf / Ripper completely re-engineered the internal platform to fix some common pain points of other high-capacity pre-filled pods.

1. Massive Capacity & Lifespan Boost

The most obvious upgrade is the sheer size of the e-liquid reservoir. While the original Ripper X was already a powerhouse, the Ripper 2.0 packs a massive 30ml of e-liquid.

By expanding the e-liquid capacity, RufPuf has effectively doubled the lifespan of these pods. The Ripper 2.0 boasts a huge 150,000 puff rating, meaning fewer trips to the vape shop and better overall value per milliliter of juice.

2. Next-Gen Triple Mesh Coils

A common issue with massive 20ml+ pods is flavour degradation. By the time you reach the end of the pod, the coil can taste off, muted, or slightly burnt.

To solve this, the Ripper 2.0 introduces a triple mesh coil system, stepping up from the dual-mesh structure found in the Ripper X. The triple-mesh array distributes heat more evenly and across a larger surface area, ensuring your last puff tastes just as vibrant and crisp as your very first.

3. Airflow & Vapor Production

Both devices feature adjustable airflow, allowing you to alternate between a tight, restricted Mouth-to-Lung (MTL) draw and a looser, cloudier Direct-to-Lung (DTL) style. However, thanks to the new triple-mesh coil architecture, the Ripper 2.0 delivers noticeably thicker vapor and a smoother, quieter draw when the airflow is wide open.

Compatibility Warning

If you're planning to buy just the new pods to save a bit of cash, take note: Ripper X and Ripper 2.0 hardware are NOT cross-compatible.

Our Verdict (for now)

You should stick with the Ripper X if:

  • You already own multiple Ripper X batteries that work perfectly.
  • You prefer a slightly more compact device in your pocket.
  • You like rotating flavours quickly or find a 30ml pod too much of a commitment.

You should stick with the Ripper 2.0 if:

  • You want the absolute maximum lifespan out of a single pod (150K puffs).
  • You want richer, more consistent flavour that won't fade out as quickly.
  • You want to save money in the long run buy buying more upfront.

The shift from Ripper X to the Ripper 2.0 represents a massive leap forward for high-capacity pod systems. While needing a new battery may be a minor hurdle, the triple-mesh flavour performance and the extra 10ml of e-liquid make the 2.0 a worthy upgrade for heavy vapers.
